Who is real Doctor?

Doctor is god! The meaning of doctor is who treats illnesses. There is another meaning: Doctor is one who teaches how to be healthy by preventing diseases. The real job of doctor is to treat and then teach. First treating the disease and then teaching the patient how s/he got that particular disease, how to make sure it does not come back, what to eat and what NOT to eat etc. Real doctors should spend half time on treatment and then rest on increasing the awareness in the patient about health. Every doctor should do this according to medical sciences. But how many doctors are spending time with patients these days? They are only treating the patients. It is doctor's responsibility to increase awareness in people so they do not get the diseases in future. Diseases are increasing because of no awareness in people. If the doctors try to educate them and then if people start following what the doctors are saying we can expect relatively healthy society.

Let us hope both doctors and people get this change!

What is health?

We think not having any disease is health. But that is not true. Though we do not have any disease at this point of time, after 4, 5 months if we get tested  we may get positive for some health issue. That means the disease which started inside out body some time back is now visible to the medical tests. After some more time it will turn into a big health concern. So can we call this health, where it is not showing up now but the symptoms are hidden inside the body? Even when the disease was hidden we can not call such state as healthy. If we do not have any disease now and we do not get one in the future then we can say that is health!

The following are some symptoms that we can observe from outside of a healthy body:
  • Clean and glowing skin
  • Glowing eyes
  • Good muscle
  • Fresh breathing
  • Good hunger
  • Nice sleep
  • Complete bowl movements everyday
  • No bad smell from mouth, sweat, urine and stool etc.
  • Free movement of hand and legs
If one has all these the we can say they are healthy. But only physically. Physical health is enough for all animals except human beings. We also need mental health in addition to physical health. So if one has both healthy body and healthy mind then we can say s/he is completely healthy.

Complete health = Physical health + Mental health

We have medical instruments to test physical health but not mental health. But there are some symptoms which can measure one's mental health. They are:

  • No mental turbulence
  • Flexibility to adjust for any situation
  • Not depressed even for small things
  • Can think on his/her own and take decisions
  • Ability to face problems etc.
But most of the times we talk of physical health than mental health because body get sick more often than mind. But there is inseparable connection between mind and body. If mind is not healthy then it definitely  affects body. Only when body is healthy, mind will be peaceful. So let's fix our body first.

Let us try to find the real answers to the questions below in our next post.
  • What is the role of Dr. in our health?
  • What is the role of different medical fields
  • How do we get health

Until then Health is Wealth!
